Shannon Lamont Mitchell, born on March 28, 1972, is a former American football player. He played as a tight end for four seasons. His entire professional career was with the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). Before turning pro, he played college football at the University of Georgia.

Early Life and School
Shannon Lamont Mitchell was born in Alcoa, Tennessee, on March 28, 1972. He grew up in Alcoa and went to Alcoa High School there.
College Football Career
Mitchell played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a key player for four years, from 1990 to 1993.
In 1990, he caught 11 passes for 123 yards and scored one touchdown. The next year, in 1991, he had 19 catches for 176 yards and another touchdown.
During the 1992 season, he caught 20 passes for 308 yards and one touchdown. His best year was 1993, his senior year. He caught 49 passes for 539 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Because of his great performance in 1993, he was named first-team All-SEC. This honor came from both the Associated Press and the Coaches.
Playing in the NFL
Shannon Mitchell was not chosen in the 1994 NFL draft. However, he signed with the San Diego Chargers on April 28, 1994.
Rookie Season (1994)
In his first year, 1994, Mitchell played in all 16 games for the Chargers. He started six of those games. He caught 11 passes for 105 yards. He also played in three playoff games that season, catching one pass for 19 yards.
Following Seasons (1995-1997)
In 1995, he played in all 16 games again, starting two. He caught three passes for 31 yards and scored one touchdown. He also played in one playoff game that year.
Mitchell played in all 16 games for the third year in a row in 1996. He started 11 games and had 10 catches for 57 yards. After the 1996 season, he became a free agent.
He later rejoined the Chargers on November 26, 1997. During the 1997 season, he played in four games, starting one. He caught one pass for 14 yards. After the 1997 season, he became a free agent again.
