Randall Ladonald Cobb II (born August 22, 1990) is an American former professional football player. He played for 13 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) as a wide receiver. Cobb played college football for the Kentucky Wildcats. He was named an All-American in 2010. The Green Bay Packers picked Cobb in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He also played for the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and New York Jets.

Early Life and Sports

Randall Cobb was born to Randall Cobb Sr. and Tina Cobb. His parents worked at a car parts factory in Maryville, Tennessee. Young Randall often helped his dad with extra jobs like installing floors or mowing lawns. His mom, Tina, was a track star in high school.

Cobb went to Alcoa High School in Alcoa, Tennessee. He was a top athlete in football, basketball, and track. His high school football team won the State Championship four times. Cobb even won a "Mr. Football" award. He played many positions in football, but he was best as a quarterback. He was also a good basketball player.

In track, Cobb was very fast. He ran sprints and was part of relay teams. In his senior year, he finished third in the state for the 100-meter dash.

College Football Career

Cobb played college football at the University of Kentucky. In his first year (2008), he played quarterback. He was named to the SEC All-Freshmen team. He scored 11 touchdowns that year.

In his second year (2009), he mainly played wide receiver. He also helped with special teams, returning kicks and holding for place kicks. He even played quarterback in a special "Wildcat" formation. He scored 15 touchdowns that season.

By his junior year (2010), Cobb was a team leader. His coach said he was "one of the best leaders I've ever been around." He scored a touchdown on a punt return. On October 9, 2010, Cobb scored four touchdowns against Auburn. This tied a Kentucky school record for career touchdowns. He was also the first Kentucky player since 2003 to score a rushing, passing, and receiving touchdown in the same game. After his junior season, he decided to enter the NFL Draft.

While at Kentucky, Cobb studied community communications and leadership.

The Green Bay Packers chose Randall Cobb in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He was the seventh wide receiver picked that year.

First Time with the Green Bay Packers

2011 Season: A Rookie Star

In his first NFL game on September 8, 2011, Cobb made history. He was the first player born in the 1990s to play in the NFL. He scored his first touchdown on a 32-yard catch. Later, he had an amazing 108-yard kickoff return. This return tied the NFL record for the longest kickoff return ever. It was even named "Play of the Year" at the NFL Honors banquet.

In November, Cobb scored another special teams touchdown on an 80-yard punt return. He became the first rookie in Packers history to return both a kick and a punt for a touchdown in the same season. For the year, he caught 25 passes for 375 yards. He also had 941 yards on kickoff returns and 295 yards on punt returns.

2012 Season: Leading the Team

In 2012, Cobb had his first game with over 100 receiving yards against the Houston Texans. He played in 15 games and started 8 of them. He led the Packers in catches with 80 and receiving yards with 954. He also scored 8 touchdowns. Cobb set a new team record with 2,342 total yards from receiving, rushing, and returns. He led the entire NFL in this category. He was chosen as a Pro Bowl alternate for his kick returning skills.

2013 Season: Overcoming Injury

In 2013, Cobb played only six games because of a broken leg. He returned for the last game of the season against the Chicago Bears. In that game, he caught a memorable 48-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers. This helped the Packers win the game and their division title. He finished the season with 31 catches for 433 yards and 4 touchdowns.

2014 Season: Pro Bowl Year

The 2014 season was a great one for Cobb. He had several games with over 100 receiving yards and multiple touchdowns. He caught 7 passes for 113 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Bears. He also had 6 catches for 121 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers. Later, he had 10 catches for 129 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Cobb finished the season with 91 catches for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. He scored a touchdown in six straight games. He was named to the Pro Bowl. In the playoffs, he had 8 catches for 116 yards against the Dallas Cowboys. The Packers won that game. In the NFC Championship game, he had 7 catches for 62 yards and a touchdown, but the Packers lost in overtime.

2015 Season: Stepping Up

In 2015, Cobb signed a new contract with the Packers. He said his heart was in Green Bay and he wanted to win a championship there. He had a strong season, especially after his teammate Jordy Nelson was injured. Cobb had 8 catches for 116 yards against the Seattle Seahawks. In another game, he scored 3 receiving touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs. He finished the season with 79 catches for 829 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also scored a touchdown in a playoff win against the Washington Redskins.

2016 Season: Playoff Heroics

Cobb finished the 2016 season with 60 catches for 610 yards and 4 touchdowns. In a playoff game against the New York Giants, he had an amazing performance. He caught 5 passes for 116 yards and 3 touchdowns. This included a 42-yard "Hail Mary" touchdown catch from Aaron Rodgers at the end of the first half.

2017 and 2018 Seasons

In 2017, Cobb had 66 catches for 653 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Packers did not make the playoffs that year. In 2018, he started strong with 9 catches for 142 yards and a touchdown against the Bears. He had a career-long 75-yard touchdown catch in that game. However, he later had a hamstring injury and missed several games. He finished the season with 38 catches for 383 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Dallas Cowboys

In 2019, Cobb signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He became their slot wide receiver. He caught his first touchdown with the Cowboys in the first game of the season. In Week 10, he had 6 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings. He also had 4 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions. Overall, he finished the 2019 season with 55 catches for 828 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Houston Texans

In 2020, Cobb signed with the Houston Texans. He was brought in to be their slot wide receiver. He caught 4 passes for 95 yards and his first touchdown as a Texan against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He later suffered a toe injury and was placed on injured reserve. Cobb finished the 2020 season with 38 catches for 441 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Second Time with the Green Bay Packers

On July 28, 2021, the Packers traded for Cobb again. This happened because his close friend and former teammate, Aaron Rodgers, asked for him to return. Cobb got injured during a game in Week 12. He finished the 2021 season with 28 catches for 375 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Packers lost in the playoffs that year.

In the 2022 season, Cobb played in 13 games. He had 34 catches for 417 yards and 1 touchdown.

New York Jets

On May 3, 2023, Cobb signed with the New York Jets. He followed Aaron Rodgers to his new team. He scored his only touchdown of the 2023 season in Week 14 against the Texans.

Personal Life

Randall Cobb is married to Aiyda, and they have two sons, Caspian and Cade. Randall made his longtime NFL teammate, Aaron Rodgers, the godfather of his son Cade. In August 2023, it was announced that Cobb and Aiyda were expecting their third child.

Cobb is also the cousin of two other NFL players, Shannon Mitchell and Billy Williams.
