Billy Louis Williams (born June 7, 1971) is a former American football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Billy Williams played one season with the St. Louis Rams. He was chosen by the Arizona Cardinals in the 1995 NFL draft. Before playing professionally, he played college football at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and the University of Tennessee.

Early Life and High School Years

Billy Louis Williams was born on June 7, 1971. His hometown is Alcoa, Tennessee. He went to Alcoa High School in Alcoa. In 2017, he was honored by being added to the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame.

College Football Career

Williams started his college football journey at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. He played there from 1991 to 1992. After that, he joined the Tennessee Volunteers. He played for them in 1993 and 1994.

Playing for Tennessee

In 1993, Billy Williams caught 39 passes. These catches gained 513 yards and led to five touchdowns. He also returned 13 kicks for 369 yards. His average of 28.4 yards per kick return was the best in the Southeastern Conference that year. As a senior in 1994, Williams had 20 catches for 217 yards. He scored two touchdowns. He also returned 17 kicks for 353 yards.

Professional Football Journey

Billy Williams was picked by the Arizona Cardinals in the 1995 NFL draft. He was the 212th player chosen overall. This happened in the seventh round of the draft. He officially signed with the Cardinals on July 24, 1995. However, the Cardinals released him on August 27, 1995.

Time with the St. Louis Rams

On August 28, 1995, Williams joined the practice squad of the St. Louis Rams. He was moved to the main team on December 20, 1995. But he did not play in any games during the 1995 season. The Rams released him on August 25, 1996. The very next day, he was signed back to their practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster again on September 7, 1996. He played in one game during the 1996 season. He did not record any statistics in that game. On October 14, 1996, he was placed on injured reserve. After the season ended, Williams became a free agent.

Brief Stint with Washington Redskins

Williams signed with the Washington Redskins on July 11, 1997. He was released by the team on August 18, 1997.
