Billy Louis Williams, born on June 7, 1971, is a former American football player. He played as a wide receiver. He was part of the St. Louis Rams team for one season. Billy was chosen by the Arizona Cardinals in the 1995 NFL draft. He played college football at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and the University of Tennessee.

Early Life

Billy Louis Williams was born in Alcoa, Tennessee, on June 7, 1971. He went to Alcoa High School in his hometown. In 2017, he was honored and added to the Blount County Sports Hall of Fame.

College Football Career

Williams started his college football journey at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. He played there from 1991 to 1992. After that, he joined the Tennessee Volunteers. He played for them in 1993 and 1994. During those years, he earned the title of "letterman" twice. This means he played well enough to earn a special award for his sport.

In 1993, Billy caught 39 passes. These catches gained 513 yards and led to five touchdowns. He also returned 13 kicks for 369 yards. His average of 28.4 yards per kick return was the best in the Southeastern Conference that season. In 1994, his senior year, he caught 20 passes for 217 yards. He also scored two touchdowns. He returned 17 kicks for 353 yards that year.

Professional Football Career

The Arizona Cardinals picked Billy Williams in the 1995 NFL draft. He was the 212th player chosen overall. He officially joined the team on July 24, 1995. However, the Cardinals released him on August 27, 1995.

The very next day, August 28, 1995, Billy joined the practice squad of the St. Louis Rams. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. On December 20, 1995, he was moved to the active roster. This meant he could play in games. But he did not play in any games during the 1995 season.

The Rams released him on August 25, 1996. He signed back to their practice squad the next day. On September 7, he was again moved to the active roster. He played in one game during the 1996 season. He did not record any statistics in that game. On October 14, 1996, he was placed on injured reserve. This means he was unable to play due to an injury. After the season, he became a free agent. This means he was free to sign with any team.

On July 11, 1997, Billy signed with the Washington Redskins. However, he was released by the team on August 18, 1997.
