Sharif Street (born March 29, 1974) is an American politician and lawyer. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He serves in the Pennsylvania State Senate, representing the 3rd district since 2017. In 2022, he became the Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. He was the first person of color to hold this important role.

Early Life and Education
Sharif Street grew up in North Philadelphia. His father, John F. Street, was a former Mayor of Philadelphia. His uncle, Milton Street, was also a State Senator. His mother, Helen Street, was a teacher.
He went to Central High School. There, he was the student body president. He also ran track and field. After high school, he attended Morehouse College. He was president of the student senate there.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business. Then, he got his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1999. During law school, he led the Penn Law Democrats group.
Early Political Work
In the early 2000s, Street was known for his cultural pride. He was elected as a delegate in 2004. This meant he helped choose the Democratic candidate for president. He supported John Kerry for President that year.
Public Service Career
While studying law, Sharif Street led a neighborhood watch group in Philadelphia. Since then, he has continued to help his community. He started groups like Philadelphia Green Communities. He also worked for the Housing Association of Delaware Valley. He served on many boards that helped with housing and safety. He also advised Senator Shirley Kitchen on housing laws.
Serving in the Pennsylvania State Senate
Sharif Street was elected to the State Senate in 2016. He works on important committees. He is part of the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing. He also serves on the committee that deals with air and water pollution.
