Sharp, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Sharp is a small, unincorporated community located in Ozark County, Missouri, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually part of a larger county. Sharp is found about a quarter-mile south of US 160, a main road, and sits between two other communities called Caulfield and Tecumseh. It's nestled at the very beginning of a place known as Hickory Stump Hollow.

History of Sharp

The community of Sharp once had its own post office. This post office was opened in 1890, which means people living there could send and receive mail right in their own community. It stayed open for about 25 years, finally closing its doors in 1915.

The name "Sharp" for the community comes from an old story passed down through time. People say it was named after one of the early settlers who lived there. This person was considered "sharp," which meant they were thought to be very clever, smart, or quick-witted.
