Shaun Michael Taylor-Corbett (born October 6, 1978) is an American actor, singer, and writer. He is also known by his Blackfeet name, I’Pyooksisstiiko’om. Shaun is famous for his roles in popular musicals like Jersey Boys and In the Heights. He also helped create and stars in the musical Distant Thunder. Besides acting, he narrates many audiobooks, including well-known titles like There There and The Only Good Indians.
Early Life and Education
Shaun Michael Taylor-Corbett was born on October 6, 1978, in Jennersville, Pennsylvania. His mother, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, is a choreographer, and his father, Michael Corbett, works in music. Shaun grew up in Rockville Centre, New York, with his three sisters. He is of mixed heritage, including Blackfeet, Scandinavian, and Black roots.
Shaun went to the University of Delaware. There, he sang in an a cappella group called the University of Delaware YChromes. He was also an honors student and helped lead the university's World Peace Club. He learned to sing from a vocal coach named Shirley Callaway.
After college, Shaun joined The New York Public Theater, where he performed plays by Shakespeare. He also acted in the TV show All My Children many times. He even played the main character, Romeo, in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, New Jersey.
Acting Career Highlights
In 2003, Shaun joined the American version of the popular Australian kids' show Hi-5. On Hi-5, he hosted the "Shapes in Space" part of the show. He would play with big shapes, pretending they were real objects. He also explained what shapes do and sang three songs in each episode, both by himself and with the other Hi-5 cast members.
Shaun left Hi-5 in 2006 to take on more acting roles. He played the character Juan in the musical Altar Boyz from July 2006 to May 2007. He also performed on Broadway in the musical In the Heights, which was created by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
