Shaunagh Connaire's Early Life

Shaunagh grew up in a town called Longford in Ireland. She went to an all-girls school there called Meán Scoil Mhuire. In 2018, she was invited to speak to the students who were graduating. She had made a short, five-minute video about her career to show them, but the school decided not to play it. Because of this, she decided not to speak at the event.

Shaunagh went to UCD and finished her studies there in 2006. Later, in 2008, she earned a special degree in journalism from Goldsmiths College in London.

Shaunagh Connaire's Career Journey

Before becoming a journalist, Shaunagh actually worked as an accountant for a company called KPMG in Dublin. After getting her journalism degree, she started working for the BBC. There, she was a researcher and producer for shows like BBC HARDtalk and BBC World News.

After her time at the BBC, she worked as a producer and reporter for other news channels, including CNBC and PBS Frontline. Then, she joined Channel 4, where she helped create more than 30 episodes of a show called Unreported World. In one of her first reports for Unreported World, she traveled to Sierra Leone to report on the Ebola outbreak.

Shaunagh Connaire's Awards and Recognition

Shaunagh Connaire has received several honors for her work. In 2009, just one year after she left her accounting job, she was recognized as a top young journalist. She was shortlisted for 'Student Broadcast Journalist of the Year' by The Guardian newspaper and Sky News.

In 2021, Shaunagh won a special award called the Gerald Loeb Award for Video. She received this award for her important work on a documentary called "Opioids, Inc." for the TV program Frontline.
