Shawn underwent daily treatments for three months, which caused him to lose weight. Only a few people knew about his illness at the time, including his coaches and trainers. He kept it private because he felt that in professional sports, people might not understand or accept such a challenge. This shows his incredible strength and determination to keep playing.
