Shawn Smith is an American professional football official in the National Football League (NFL). He helps make sure games are played fairly. He wears uniform number 14.

Shawn Smith started working in the NFL in 2015 as an umpire. An umpire checks how players line up and watches for fouls. In 2018, he became a referee. The referee is the main official in a football game. They are in charge of all the other officials.

Smith is special because he is one of only six African American referees in NFL history. The others include Johnny Grier, Mike Carey, Jerome Boger, Don Carey and Ronald Torbert.

When he is not working for the NFL, Shawn Smith has another job. He works as an internal auditor in Southfield, Michigan. An auditor checks financial records to make sure everything is correct.
