Shawnee is a small, unincorporated community located in southeastern Converse County, Wyoming, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's found along U.S. Routes 18 and 20, just east of Douglas, which is the main town in Converse County. Shawnee sits at an elevation of about 5,059 feet (1,542 meters) above sea level.
Shawnee's Story
The community of Shawnee got its start a long time ago. A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened here in 1887. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 2007. Shawnee was named after a nearby stream called Shawnee Creek.

Even though Shawnee is a small community, it has public schools for its young residents. Education in Shawnee is managed by the Converse County School District #1. Younger students, from kindergarten through eighth grade, attend Shawnee School. For high school, students in grades 9 through 12 go to Douglas High School.
