Shelburn's History
Shelburn was named after its founder, a person named Paschal Shelburn. The town's post office has been open since 1861.
In 1949, a very strong tornado hit the northwestern part of Shelburn. This event caused a lot of damage. It destroyed many homes and affected the lives of several people.

Shelburn's Historic Interurban Depot
Shelburn is home to a special old building called the Shelburn THI&E Interurban Depot/Substation. This building was like a train station for electric trains. These trains were called "interurbans" because they traveled between cities.
The Depot was built in two main stages, between 1910 and 1921. It is important because it shows how electric train travel grew in Indiana a long time ago. Its unique design also makes it special.
In 2017, the outside of the building was carefully repaired. Workers fixed the roof, replaced doors and windows, and restored the brick walls. This helped preserve this important piece of history.
