Railroad History and Importance

The community grew a lot because of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. This railroad arrived in the 1830s. The name "Shenandoah Junction" comes from where two important railroads meet. These were the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) and the Norfolk and Western Railway.

Today, two different train lines cross paths here. These are the Norfolk Southern Hagerstown Line and the CSX Cumberland Subdivision lines. This makes Shenandoah Junction an important spot for trains.
