Sheosar Lake (Urdu: شاؤسر جھیل) is a beautiful lake found in the Deosai Plains of Pakistan. It's located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, which is in the northern part of the country. This amazing lake sits very high up, at an elevation of 4,142 meters (about 13,589 feet) above sea level.

Sheosar Lake is quite large! It stretches about 2.3 kilometers (1.4 miles) long and is 1.8 kilometers (1.2 miles) wide. The water in the lake is also quite deep, reaching an average of 40 meters (131 feet). The name "Sheosar" comes from the local Shina language. Sheo means 'blind' and Sar means 'lake', so it means 'Blind Lake'.

Getting to Sheosar Lake

You can reach Sheosar Lake by two main routes. Both routes offer amazing views and a chance to explore the beautiful Deosai Plains.

Route from Skardu

One way to get to the lake is from the city of Skardu. If you travel by jeep, the journey takes only a few hours. However, if you enjoy hiking, you can trek to the lake, which usually takes about two days. This route is popular for adventurers.

Route from Astore

The second way to reach She lake is from Astore District. This route also leads you through stunning landscapes to the lake.

Best Time to Visit

Sheosar Lake and the Deosai Plains are covered in deep snow for a big part of the year, usually from November to May. During these months, it's very difficult to visit.

However, the area completely transforms in spring and summer! From June to September, the snow melts, and the Deosai Plains become a vibrant wonderland. The ground gets covered with many different kinds of colorful flowers, and you can see lots of beautiful butterflies flying around. This is the best time to visit Sheosar Lake and experience its natural beauty.
