Early Life and High School Basketball
Sherell Ford grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He later attended Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois. While playing basketball there, he was teammates with other future NBA players. These included Michael Finley and Donnie Boyce.
College Career at UIC
Sherell Ford played college basketball for the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He played for the UIC Flames from 1992 to 1995.
Standout Sophomore Season
During his second year, Sherell was one of the top players in the Mid-Continent Conference. This conference is now known as the Summit League. He ranked first in points and rebounds per game. He was also second in blocks and third in steals per game.
Impressive Junior Year
In his junior year, Sherell continued to excel. He averaged over 26 points per game. This was the fourth-highest average in the entire nation. He was also named the Player of the Year for the Midwestern Collegiate Conference. This conference is now called the Horizon League. After this successful season, he decided to enter the NBA draft.

Time in the NBA
