It employs about 1,000 people. Shezan is most famous for its 'Shezan Mango' juice, which is a very popular mango drink in Pakistan.
History of Shezan
How Shezan Started
Shezan International was officially created on May 13, 1964. It was founded by Chaudhry Shah Nawaz. The company began as a partnership between his group, Shahnawaz Group, and an Australian company called Amcor. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) even gave them a loan of 2.5 million US dollars. This money helped them buy all the special equipment they needed.
Early Products and Growth
In 1965, Shezan started testing and selling orange juice. They built their first fruit processing and bottling plant in Lahore, which also became their main office. At first, the hot weather in the region caused problems. It was hard to keep the juice fresh on store shelves. However, by the end of 1966, they solved these issues. This made sure their bottled juice stayed good for a long time. In 1967, Shezan added more types of juices. They started making mango, grape, apple, and berry juices.
Changes and Expansion
In 1968, Amcor decided to leave Pakistan. They sold their share of the company to Shahnawaz Group. A year later, in 1969, Shezan introduced a new drink called Lemon Barley juice.
In the early 1980s, Shezan grew even more. A new factory was set up in Karachi between 1980 and 1981. This factory now serves Karachi and the Sindh region. It also helps meet the demand for products sent to other countries. In 1983, another bottle filling plant was built in Lahore, Punjab. Then, in 1987, a special plant for making Tetra Brik cartons was started.
In 1989, Shezan became a public company. This meant its shares could be bought and sold on the Karachi Stock Exchange. This happened after an initial public offering, where the first shares were sold to the public for 38 Pakistani Rupees each.
In 1990, the company decided to build another juice factory. This new factory was planned for Hattar, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area of Pakistan.
