Shibogama First Nations Council facts for kids
The Shibogama First Nations Council is an important group that helps several First Nations communities in northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is a member of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, which is a larger organization representing many First Nations.
The Shibogama Area Tribal Council started on September 28, 1984, at the Kasabonika Lake Band Office. In January 1985, the Shibogama First Nations Council officially became an organization. It is now guided by a group of leaders called the Board of Directors. These leaders are the Chiefs from each of the six First Nations that are part of the Council.
What Shibogama Does
The Shibogama First Nations Council works to support its member communities. It has different departments that help with many important things.
Council Departments
- Administration: This department handles the daily operations and management of the Council.
- Shibogama Education: This group helps with schooling and learning for children and young people in the communities.
- Technical Services: This team provides support for building projects and community improvements. They help with things like managing construction, designing buildings, and making sure water and sewer systems work well. They also help with computer networks.
- Health Authority: This department focuses on the health and well-being of the people in the communities.
