Shigeo Sugimoto (杉本 茂雄, December 4, 1926 – April 2, 2002) was a talented Japanese football player. He was known for playing as a midfielder. Sugimoto also proudly represented his country on the Japanese national team.

Shigeo Sugimoto's Club Career
Shigeo Sugimoto was born in Kobe, Japan, on December 4, 1926. After finishing his studies at Kwansei Gakuin University, he began his professional football career. In 1948, he joined the team Hankyu Railways.
Sugimoto also played for a team called Kwangaku Club. This club was made up of players and graduates from his old university, Kwansei Gakuin University. With Kwangaku Club, he helped them win the important Emperor's Cup three times. They won in 1950, 1953, and 1955.
Playing for Japan's National Team
In March 1951, Shigeo Sugimoto was chosen to play for the Japan national team. This was a special moment, as it was Japan's first international game after World War II. He played in the 1951 Asian Games.
Sugimoto made his first appearance for Japan on March 7, 1951, in a match against Iran. He played a total of 3 games for the Japanese national team between 1951 and 1954.
Shigeo Sugimoto passed away on April 2, 2002, in Nishinomiya, Japan. He was 75 years old.
