DR Nurshahila binti Amir Amzah (born August 13, 1990), known professionally as Shila Amzah, is a famous Malaysian singer and songwriter. She grew up in Kuala Lumpur and started her music career at a very young age. Her father, also a singer, would take her to recording studios when she was just four years old.
Shila is known for her powerful voice and for being successful in both Malaysia and Chinese-speaking countries. She won a major singing competition in Shanghai, China, called Asian Wave. This victory made her a star in the Mandopop (Mandarin pop music) world. Her success has earned her nicknames like "Asia's Sweetheart" and "National Treasure of Malaysia."
She is the first and only Malay artist to become very popular in China. She even has over 2.3 million followers on the Chinese social media site Sina Weibo. In 2018, Forbes magazine named her one of its "30 Under 30 Asia" in the Entertainment and Sports category, recognizing her as a young and influential leader.
Over the years, her stage name has changed. As a child, she was "NurShahila." Later, it became "Sha-Hila," and then just "Shila" for a TV singing contest. She added "Amzah" from her father's name to create the name she uses today. In China, her name is written as 茜拉 (Xīlā).
