- Soshina (粗品)
- His real name is Naoto Sasaki (佐々木 直人).
- He was born on January 7, 1993, in Chūō-ku, Osaka.
- Soshina plays the tsukkomi role. The tsukkomi is the smart one who points out the boke's mistakes.
- He went to Doshisha University but left to focus on his comedy career.
- Soshina is super special! He is the first person to win both the M-1 Grand Prix (in 2018) and the R-1 Grand Prix (in 2019). The R-1 Grand Prix is a big contest for solo comedians.
Their Journey to Comedy
Both Seiya and Soshina loved comedy even before they became a duo. They each had some experience performing on their own.
Seiya performed manzai on TV when he was in elementary school. He even appeared on TV as a young amateur comedian in middle school. Soshina also started early. He competed in the R-1 Grand Prix in 2010 when he was still in high school. He used the name "Soshina" back then. He also ran a website where people could play oogiri, which is a fun game where you give funny answers to questions.
High School Comedy Days
Before they met, Soshina had a comedy duo in high school called Spade. They did very well in a contest called High School Manzai 2009. They even made it to the finals! Spade became quite popular among high school students in Osaka. Seiya heard about them and was inspired. He decided to enter High School Manzai 2010 himself, hoping to beat Spade.
Seiya and Soshina finally met on August 11, 2010. It was at the High School Manzai 2010 contest. Seiya was in a duo called Tori. Both Spade and Tori performed well, but neither made it to the finals that year.
In their last year of high school, both of their comedy groups broke up. Seiya and Soshina then entered another contest, Owarai Inter-High 2011, as solo comedians. They met again in the finals. This was when Soshina started to notice how talented Seiya was.
Forming Shimofuri Myojo
Seiya went to Kindai University, and Soshina went to Doshisha University. Soshina kept performing comedy on his own. He even won a TV comedy contest called 2012 All That's Manzai when he was just 19! He passed an audition to join Yoshimoto Kogyo in his first year of university. This made him decide to leave university and focus on comedy full-time.
Even though Soshina was doing well alone, he really wanted a comedy partner. He thought Seiya would be perfect! Soshina kept asking Seiya to form a duo with him. Seiya wasn't sure at first, but he finally said yes. That's how Shimofuri Myojo was born!
They both helped choose the name. Seiya picked "Shimofuri" (霜降り), which means "marbled" (like marbled meat). He just thought it sounded cool. Soshina chose "Myojo" (明星), which means "bright star". He said he wanted something bright because he thought his own personality was a bit gloomy. But later, he shared a secret! The main idea for "Myojo" came from a character in an anime called Seto no Hanayome.
The duo officially started in January 2013.
Their Success as a Duo
Shimofuri Myojo quickly became very successful.
In 2017, they won the ABC Comedy Grand Prix. This helped them become regular guests on a TV show called Arata Shiinami 24, which later became AI-TV.
Then, in 2018, they reached the finals of the 2018 M-1 Grand Prix. And they won! This made them famous all over Japan. Now, they appear on many TV shows and even have their own program. They are truly bright stars in the comedy world!
