Shinichiro Takahashi (高橋 真一郎, Takahashi Shin'ichirō, born October 27, 1957) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He was known for playing as a forward and later became a coach for several teams.
Playing Career
Shinichiro Takahashi was born in Fukuyama, Japan, on October 27, 1957. After finishing his studies at Osaka University of Economics, he joined his local football club in 1980. This club was first called Toyo Industries, then Mazda, and later became Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
He played regularly as a forward, which is a player who tries to score goals. He also played as an offensive midfielder, helping to create scoring chances. Even though his team didn't always have the best results in the Japan Soccer League, they did reach the final of the 1987 Emperor's Cup in 1987.
In 1992, the old Japan Soccer League was replaced by a new league called the J1 League. Shinichiro Takahashi found it hard to play much because of injuries. He decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 1993 season.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing, Shinichiro Takahashi started a new career as a coach. He began coaching at Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 1994. In 2000, he moved to Gamba Osaka and became a manager for their youth team. Youth teams are for younger players who are still learning the game.
He returned to Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2003. In 2004, he moved to Yokohama F. Marinos. There, he coached their youth team from 2004 to 2006. Then, in 2007, he became a coach for the main senior team.
In 2008, he joined Kashiwa Reysol as a coach. The next year, in 2009, he became their manager. However, the team's results were not very good that year, and he left in July. In 2010, he went back to Sanfrecce Hiroshima again.
In 2012, he moved to Tokyo Verdy and worked as a coach. Later that year, in September, the manager Ryoichi Kawakatsu resigned. Shinichiro Takahashi then took over as the new manager for Tokyo Verdy. He stayed in that role until the end of the 2012 season.
