Besides making music, he creates the cool visuals for another Australian band called Tame Impala.

About Shiny Joe Ryan

Joseph Michael Ryan was born in Nenagh, Ireland, on August 23, 1987. When he was about six years old, his family moved to Perth, Australia. This is where he grew up and started his music journey.

Early Music Projects

In 2007, Shiny Joe Ryan joined a new band called Mink Mussel Creek. He played guitar in this group. Other members included Nick Allbrook (vocals), Richard Ingham (synthesisers), Kevin Parker (drums), and Steve Summerlin (bass guitar). They recorded an album in 2008, but it was not officially released at that time.

Joining the Band Pond

In 2008, Joe Ryan, Nick Allbrook, and Jay Watson had an exciting idea. They wanted to create a music project where anyone could join in and play whatever they liked. This idea led to the formation of the band Pond.

Pond has released many albums over the years. These include Psychedelic Mango (2009), Corridors of Blissterday (2009), Frond (2010), Beard, Wives, Denim (2012), Hobo Rocket (2013), Man It Feels Like Space Again (2015), The Weather (2017), Tasmania (2019), Sessions (2019), 9 (2021), and Stung! (2024).

Solo Music Career

Shiny Joe Ryan has also created his own music as a solo artist. He has released two albums that show his unique style.

The Cosmic Microwave Background Album

On May 30, 2014, Shiny Joe Ryan released his first solo album, The Cosmic Microwave Background, in Australia. It was later released worldwide on October 14, 2014. The album's title refers to the energy left over from the Big Bang, which is how the universe began.

Joe wrote the songs for this album over two years. He recorded parts of it in his apartment in Berlin. Some songs, like "Holding Out for You" and "Medicine Hat," were later used on Pond's album Man It Feels Like Space Again. After releasing his album, Joe went on a short tour in Australia. Then, he returned to his work with Pond.

In 2014, Joe also toured with the band Tame Impala. He helped create the visual effects for their shows, adding to the experience for the audience.
