Joseph Michael "Shiny Joe" Ryan was born on August 23, 1987. He is an Irish-Australian musician, singer, and songwriter. He is a main member and guitarist of the band Pond. Pond has released many albums. Shiny Joe Ryan has also released two solo albums. These are The Cosmic Microwave Background (2014) and Shiny's Democracy (2021). He also creates the visuals for the Australian band Tame Impala.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Joseph Michael Ryan was born in Nenagh, Ireland. When he was about six years old, his family moved to Perth, Australia.
Joining Mink Mussel Creek
In 2007, Shiny Joe Ryan joined a new band called Mink Mussel Creek. He played guitar in this band. Other members included Nick Allbrook on vocals and Kevin Parker on drums. The band recorded an album in 2008, but it was not released at that time.
Forming Pond
In 2008, Ryan, Nick Allbrook, and Jay Watson had an idea. They wanted to start a music project where anyone could play what they wanted. This group became the band Pond. Pond has released ten albums. These include Psychedelic Mango (2009) and Stung! (2024).
Solo Music: The Cosmic Microwave Background
On May 30, 2014, Shiny Joe Ryan released his first solo album. It was called The Cosmic Microwave Background. It was first released digitally in Australia. The album was released worldwide later that year. The title of the album refers to the energy left over from the Big Bang. The Big Bang is how scientists believe the universe began.
Shiny Joe Ryan wrote the songs for this album over two years. He recorded some of it in his apartment in Berlin. Two songs from this album, "Holding Out for You" and "Medicine Hat," also appeared on a Pond album. After releasing his solo album, he went on a short tour in Australia. Then he went back to working with Pond. Later in 2014, he toured with Tame Impala. He helped create the cool visual effects for their shows.
