Shirley L. Huntley was born on June 29, 1938. She is an American politician who served as a New York State Senator from 2007 to 2012. Senator Huntley represented Senate District 10 in Queens County. This district included neighborhoods like Jamaica, South Jamaica, Springfield Gardens, Laurelton, South Ozone Park, Kew Gardens, Broad Channel, and Lindenwood.
Shirley Huntley's Political Career
Shirley Huntley began her public service by being elected to Community School Board 28 in 1993. She was the president of this School Board until it was no longer active in 2004.
After that, in June 2004, she was chosen to be part of the Community Education Council for District 28. Just one month later, in July 2004, she was elected as its president.
Becoming a State Senator
As a member of the Democratic Party, Shirley Huntley ran for State Senate. In 2006, she won against the then-State Senator Ada Smith in the Democratic primary election.
After winning the primary, she also won the general election that same year. Shirley Huntley officially took office as a New York State Senator in 2007. She served the people of her district until 2012.
