Shonto Preparatory School is a school system for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. It is located in Shonto, Arizona. The school system includes a K-8 school and Shonto Preparatory Technology High School. The K-8 school gets funding from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The high school is a special type of public school called a charter school.

The School's History
Why the School Started
The first schools for Native American students in this area began in 1933. Local families wanted their children to go to school closer to home. Before this, students often had to travel far away.
Moving to a New Home
The school moved to its current location in 1966. It was first known as Shonto Boarding School. In 1996, it became a BIA/charter school. The high school part was added in 1997.
Serving Many Communities
Shonto Preparatory School helps students from many rural areas. These areas include Black Mesa, Inscription House, Kaibeto, Kayenta, and Tonalea. Some students travel as far as 40 miles (64 km) by bus to attend.

The High School Building
The current high school building was built between 2005 and 2006. It has 16 classrooms for different subjects. There are also two special classrooms for learning job skills. The school also has a large room called a Cafetorium. This room is used for both eating and other school events.

The high school also has a place where students can live. This is called a boarding facility.

Who Works at the School
The high school has nine certified teachers. Each teacher works in a different subject area. The school office also has staff to help students and manage records. This includes a student service technician, a registrar, and a principal.
Student Body Information
As of January 2020, there were 73 students at the high school. All of these students are Native American. More than 90% of the students can get free or reduced-price lunches. This program helps families with food costs.
School Sports Programs
Shonto Preparatory Technology High School has a growing sports program. Students can join many different teams. The school competes in the Arizona Interscholastic Association. This group organizes sports for schools in Arizona.
