Shotts is a small place in the South West region of Western Australia. It is part of the Shire of Collie. You can find Shotts just off the Coalfields Highway. It sits between the towns of Collie and Darkan.
History of Shotts
Shotts started out as a railway stop in 1911. Back then, it had a different name: Benelaking. This stop was on the railway line that connected Collie to Narrogin.
Later in 1911, the name was changed to Shotts. This new name was chosen to honor another town. It was named after a coal mining town called Shotts in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
A company called Premier Coal Mining operated a coal mine nearby. In 1913, this company asked for a proper town to be built there. The local government, known as the Collie Road Board, supported this idea. The town of Shotts was officially recognized in 1917.
