Shu-Ninua was an ancient king of Assyria. He ruled from about 1615 BC to 1602 BC. He is listed as the 54th king on the Assyrian Kinglist. This is a very old document that lists all the kings of Assyria.

Shu-Ninua was the son of a king named Bazaya. He became king after Lullaya, who was described as a "son of nobody." This means Lullaya was not from a royal family.

Who Was King Shu-Ninua?

Shu-Ninua was a powerful leader in ancient Mesopotamia. He ruled the land of Assyria for 14 years. His time as king was important for the history of Assyria.

What Does His Name Mean?

The exact meaning of Shu-Ninua's name is a bit of a mystery. Experts have studied old writings to figure it out. Some thought his name was Kidin-Ninua, which might mean "Under the protection of Nineveh." Nineveh was an important city in Assyria.

However, most experts now agree on Shu-Ninua. Some think it could mean "he of Ishtar." Ishtar was a very important goddess in ancient times. But we don't know for sure if this is correct.

Who Else Lived During His Reign?

Shu-Ninua lived at the same time as Akurduana. Akurduana was a ruler from the Sealand Dynasty in southern Babylonia. This is known from an ancient text called the Synchronistic Kinglist. This list helps us understand which kings ruled at the same time in different lands.

The Assyrian Kinglist tells us that Shu-Ninua ruled for 14 years. After him, his sons became kings. First, his son Sharma-Adad II ruled. Then, his other son Erishum III became king.
