History of Sidell
Sidell village and its township are named after John Sidell. He moved to this area from Ohio in 1861. John Sidell bought a large piece of land, about 3,000 acres, near the Little Vermilion River.

By 1888, Sidell was not just a farming community. It had three other important industries. These included making tiles and bricks. People also harvested ice, which was important before refrigerators were common.
