Siegfried Rauch (born April 2, 1932 – died March 11, 2018) was a famous German actor. He worked in movies and on TV for over 60 years! He was in many international films and had big roles in German TV shows.

Siegfried Rauch's Acting Career
Siegfried Rauch was born in Landsberg am Lech, a town in Upper Bavaria, Germany. He studied acting at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He also took private acting lessons to improve his skills.
He started performing in theaters in 1958. He first acted in Bremen until 1962. After that, he performed in famous cities like Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg.
Working in Hollywood Films
In the 1970s, Siegfried Rauch became known in Hollywood, USA. He appeared in the 1970 film Patton. In this movie, he played Captain Steiger.
He also acted in Le Mans (1971). In this film, he played Erich Stahler, a race car driver. Erich Stahler was the rival of the character played by the famous actor Steve McQueen.
Rauch also appeared in The Big Red One. He played a German army sergeant in this film. Other Hollywood movies he was in include The Eagle Has Landed (1976) and Escape to Athena (1979).
Famous German TV Roles
Siegfried Rauch had many popular roles on German television. One of his most famous was Thomas Lieven. He played this character in the TV series It Can't Always Be Caviar (1977). This show was based on a spy novel.
From 1999 to 2013, Rauch had a main role on Das Traumschiff. This TV series is one of the most-watched shows in Germany. He played the captain of a cruise ship. He was very popular in this role.
He also appeared regularly in other German TV shows. One of these was Der Bergdoktor. He continued acting until he passed away.
Siegfried Rauch's Personal Life
Siegfried Rauch was also known as "Sigi" by his friends. He lived in Obersöchering, a town near Weilheim in southern Upper Bavaria.
He married Karin in 1964. They had two sons together. Interestingly, the famous American actor Steve McQueen was the godfather of their son Jakob.
Siegfried Rauch passed away on March 11, 2018. He was 85 years old. He died from a sudden heart problem, which caused him to fall down stairs near his home.
