Sigvard Emanuel "Sigge" Parling (born March 26, 1930 – died September 17, 2016) was a famous Swedish athlete. He was best known as a football player. Sigge also played ice hockey and bandy, showing he was great at many sports!

Sigge Parling's Football Career

Sigge Parling played football for several teams during his career. His main team was Djurgårdens IF, where he played from 1949 to 1960. He was a left midfielder, which means he played in the middle of the field on the left side. People thought he was a tough but fair player.

Playing for Djurgårdens IF

During his time at Djurgårdens IF, Sigge was known as the first Järnkamin. This nickname means "Iron Stove" and shows how strong and determined he was on the field. He played 195 games for Djurgården and scored 12 goals. Sigge helped Djurgårdens IF win the Swedish Championship twice, in 1955 and 1959.

Other Football Teams

After his time with Djurgårdens IF, Sigge also played for other clubs. These included IK Sirius from 1960 to 1963 and Gefle IF from 1963 to 1965. He continued to be an important player for these teams.

Playing for Sweden

Sigge Parling was a key player for the Swedish national team. He played 37 games for his country between 1954 and 1960.

The 1958 FIFA World Cup

One of Sigge's biggest achievements was being part of the Swedish team in the 1958 FIFA World Cup. This big tournament was held in Sweden. The team played incredibly well and made it all the way to the final match!

Sigge Parling holds a special record for Djurgårdens IF. He is the only player from that club who has ever played in a World Cup Final. This shows how important he was to the Swedish team during that historic tournament.

Sigge's Bandy Success

Besides football, Sigge Parling was also a talented bandy player. Bandy is a winter sport played on ice, similar to ice hockey but with a ball instead of a puck. In 1961, Sigge won the Swedish Bandy Final with his team, IK Sirius. This proves he was a true all-around athlete!
