Silver Creek (Santa Clara County, California) facts for kids
Silver Creek is a historic stream located in San Jose, California. Today, it's known as two separate waterways: Upper Silver Creek and Lower Silver Creek. Both of these streams are tributaries that flow into Coyote Creek.
Originally, Silver Creek did not connect directly to Coyote Creek. Instead, it flowed into a marshy area called Laguna Socayre. This area is now home to Lake Cunningham, which helps control floodwaters. The upper part of the original stream was redirected to flow straight into Coyote Creek. This section is now called Upper Silver Creek.
The lower part of the stream starts below Lake Cunningham. It collects water from Thompson Creek and other smaller streams. This section, known as Lower Silver Creek, flows through a large concrete channel. It eventually joins Coyote Creek near Watson Park. The very end of Lower Silver Creek merges with a part of Miguelita Creek before reaching Coyote Creek. Some people consider Miguelita Creek a main branch of Lower Silver Creek. Others see Lower Silver Creek as flowing into Miguelita Creek.
