A Brave Defender
Simon II was known for his bravery in defending his home. In 1098, his lands faced a big challenge.
The Siege of Montfort
A powerful ruler named William II Rufus, who was the King of England, decided to attack Montfort. King William was also in charge of Normandy at the time. This was because the usual ruler of Normandy, Robert Curthose, was away fighting in a crusade.
King William's army tried to capture Montfort by surrounding it. This is called a siege. During a siege, an army tries to cut off all supplies to a castle or town until the people inside give up.
Simon's Victory
But Simon II de Montfort was a strong leader. He successfully fought off King William's attack. He managed to defend Montfort and keep it safe from the English king's army. This was a big victory for him and his people.
His Later Life
Simon II de Montfort passed away on September 25, 1104. He did not have any children to inherit his title and lands. Because of this, his brother, Amaury III, became the next lord of Montfort-l'Amaury.
