Simona's Swimming Journey

Simona Quadarella started making a big splash in international swimming in 2017. She was only 19 years old when she won a bronze medal in the 1500 metre freestyle at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. This was just the beginning of her success!

Winning Gold Medals

In 2017 and 2018, Simona won nine international medals. Seven of these were gold, and two were bronze. A big highlight was at the 2018 European Aquatics Championships. There, she won three gold medals in the 400 m, 800 m, and 1500 m freestyle events. This was a fantastic achievement!

In July 2019, Simona won her first world title at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju. She took home the gold medal in the 1500 metre freestyle. She also won a silver medal in the 800 metre race.

Olympic and European Success

The 2020 European Aquatics Championships were held in May 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Simona showed her strength again by winning three more gold medals. These were in the 400 m, 800 m, and 1500 m freestyle races. She also won a bronze medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

Later in July 2021, Simona competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. These Games were also postponed due to the pandemic. She proudly won a bronze medal in the 800 metre freestyle event.

At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Simona finished fifth in the 1500 metre freestyle. A few days later, she won a bronze medal in the 800 metre freestyle.

European Championships in Rome (2022)

Just two months after the World Championships, Simona competed at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships in Rome. She won the gold medal in the 800 metre freestyle. This was her third gold medal in a row for this event at the European Championships. No other female swimmer had done that before!

Three days later, she won another gold medal in the 1500 metre freestyle. This was also her third consecutive gold in that event at the European Championships. These wins brought her total number of gold medals at the European Aquatics Championships to eight. This set a new record for an Italian female swimmer. On the final day, she won a silver medal in the 400 metre freestyle.
