Simona's Swimming Career

Simona Quadarella started making a big splash in international swimming in 2017. She was just 19 years old then. At the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, she won a bronze medal in the 1500 meter freestyle event.

In 2017 and 2018, Simona won nine international medals. Seven of these were gold, and two were bronze. A big highlight was at the 2018 European Aquatics Championships. There, she won three gold medals! She took first place in the 400 meter, 800 meter, and 1500 meter freestyle races.

World Championship Wins

In July 2019, Simona achieved her first world title at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju. She won the gold medal in the 1500 meter freestyle with a time of 15 minutes and 40.89 seconds. She also earned a silver medal in the 800 meter race, finishing in 8 minutes and 14.99 seconds.

Olympic and European Success

The 2020 European Aquatics Championships were held in May 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Simona had another amazing performance there. She won three more gold medals in the 400 meter, 800 meter, and 1500 meter freestyle events. This was just like her triple win in Glasgow in 2018! She also won a bronze medal in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay.

Later in July 2021, Simona competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. These Games were also moved to 2021 due to the pandemic. She won a bronze medal in the 800 meter freestyle, finishing with a time of 8 minutes and 18.35 seconds.

At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Simona placed fifth in the 1500 meter freestyle. A few days later, she won a bronze medal in the 800 meter freestyle. Her time was 8 minutes and 19.00 seconds.

European Championships in Rome (2022)

Two months after the World Championships, Simona competed at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships in Rome. She won the gold medal in the 800 meter freestyle. This was her third gold medal in a row for this event at the European Championships. No other female swimmer had done that before!

Three days later, she won another gold medal in the 1500 meter freestyle. This was also her third consecutive gold in that event at the European Championships. With this medal, Simona set a new record. She now has eight gold medals from the European Aquatics Championships, more than any other Italian female swimmer. On the last day, she won a silver medal in the 400 meter freestyle.
