The Simsbury Bank and Trust Company Building is a special old building in Simsbury, Connecticut. It's also known as the former Town Hall Building. Built in 1917, this building shows off a cool style called Colonial Revival architecture. It was once the town's very first bank! Later, it even served as Simsbury's town hall from 1969 to 1984. Because of its history and unique look, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

This historic building stands out in the heart of Simsbury. You can find it at the corner of Hopmeadow and Station Streets. It's a two-story building made of brick. The design is in the Colonial Revival style.
What Does the Building Look Like?
The building is shaped like a square. Its front side is about 72 feet long. This front is divided into five sections. These sections are separated by pairs of tall, fluted columns called pilasters. Each pilaster has a pretty rosette design at the top. The columns at the corners rest on strong stone bases.
The main entrance is right in the middle of the front. It's set back in a curved archway. Above the door, there's a half-circle window with a fan-like design. Thin columns and windows with leaded glass frame the entrance. The top of the building has fancy decorations. The roof also has a low fence-like railing called a balustrade. This railing is broken up by brick posts.
Who Built This Important Simsbury Landmark?
A local businessman named Joseph Ensign had this building constructed in 1917. The design came from a Hartford architecture company called Smith & Bassette.
The building first opened as the Simsbury Bank and Trust Company. This bank started in 1916. For many years, the building also held offices for the local telephone company. Plus, it had different shops and businesses inside.
The bank stayed in the building until 1969. That's when the town of Simsbury bought it. From 1969 until 1984, this building was the town hall. It was where important town decisions were made! Today, the building is once again used for different businesses.
