On October 31, 2000, a plane called Singapore Airlines Flight 006 had a serious accident. It crashed right after trying to take off from Chiang Kai-shek International Airport in Taiwan. The pilots accidentally used the wrong runway during a big storm. The plane was a large Boeing 747-400 with 179 people on board. Sadly, 83 people died, but 96 people survived the crash.

What Happened?

The accident happened because of a few reasons. It was a very stormy night with strong winds and heavy rain from Typhoon Xangsane. The pilots were supposed to take off from a specific runway, but they turned onto a closed runway by mistake. This runway was being repaired and had equipment on it.

When the plane tried to take off, it hit the construction equipment. This caused the plane to break apart and catch fire. The bad weather made it hard for the pilots to see clearly, which contributed to the confusion.

People Affected

There were 179 people on the plane, including passengers and crew members. Out of these, 83 people died in the crash. This included 79 passengers and four crew members.

Many different nationalities were on board. Among those who died were people from Taiwan, the United States, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and several other countries. It was a very sad event for many families around the world.
