Siobhan MacGowan (born in 1963) is a talented author from Ireland. She has written two novels: The Trial of Lotta Rae, published in May 2022, and The Graces, which came out in June 2023. Besides writing, Siobhan has also worked in journalism and the music business. She is the sister of the famous singer Shane MacGowan, who was the lead singer of the Irish band The Pogues.

Working with The Pogues

When the band The Pogues first started in the early 1980s, they were called "Pogue Mahone". Siobhan MacGowan helped them by designing posters and flyers to tell people about their concerts. Later, in 1988, she also worked for The Pogues by editing and writing their fan magazine, which was called 'Ordnahone'.

Her Music Career

In 1988, Siobhan moved to Dublin, Ireland. There, she started her own band called The Frantic. The band played Siobhan's songs at different places like The Rock Garden and the Olympia Theatre. She also performed as a supporting act for other well-known singers, including Hazel O'Connor and Mary Coughlan.

In 1992, a music video for her song Chariot was even shown on MTV on Christmas Day! Later, in 1997, she recorded her album, also called Chariot. It was released in Ireland and the UK in April 1998. Siobhan performed at the Point Theatre in Dublin on Christmas 1998, sharing the stage with famous groups like The Dubliners and her brother, Shane MacGowan.

From 1992 to 1994, Siobhan worked as the personal assistant for the famous musician Van Morrison. This job allowed her to travel with him across the United States and Europe. In 2002, she released a second version of her Chariot album, which included a new bonus song.

Journalism and Writing

Siobhan MacGowan has a lot of experience in writing. She worked as a copywriter for the Kent & Sussex Courier, creating text for their advertisements. She also wrote articles for popular magazines like Smash Hits, Record Mirror, and FSM Monthly.

As a freelance journalist, Siobhan wrote for major newspapers such as The Irish Times and The Sunday Times, as well as Mizz Magazine. In 1994, she moved to County Tipperary in Ireland and worked for the local Arts Office.

Siobhan also created Celtic and funky art under the name "Cat MacZebedee". She even wrote a story for children called Etain's Dream, which was published in parts in the 'Nenagh Guardian' newspaper.

Her first novel for adults, The Trial of Lotta Rae, was published in May 2022. Her second novel, The Graces, followed in June 2023.

Other Projects

Siobhan MacGowan has also tried acting. She appeared in Patrick Bergin's three-part series about the poet Yeats, called Countess Kathleen.
