Siona Shimshi (also known as "Ziona") was a talented Israeli artist. She was born on July 14, 1939, and passed away on October 16, 2018. Siona was known for her work as a painter, a sculptor, a ceramist (someone who makes art from clay), and a textile designer (someone who designs patterns for fabrics).

Early Life and Education
Siona Shimshi was born in Tel Aviv, which was then part of Mandatory Palestine. Her parents, Haya Rivka and Avraham Shimshi, had moved there from Lithuania in 1933. In 1961, Siona married Jachin Hirsch, who was an Israeli filmmaker.
Where Siona Studied Art
Siona loved art and studied at several places. From 1956 to 1959, she attended the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv. There, she learned from famous artists like Avigdor Stematsky and Yehezkel Streichman. She also focused on ceramics, studying at Alfred University in New York from 1959 to 1962. She continued her ceramics training at Greenwich House Pottery in New York City.

Siona Shimshi had a very active and important art career. She was involved in many art projects and taught art to others.
The "10+ Group"
In 1965, Siona helped start an art group called the "10+ Group." She co-founded this group with other artists, including Buky Schwartz and Raffi Lavie. This group brought together artists who wanted to explore new ideas in art.
Teaching and Design Work
Siona was a professor at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. From 1979 to 1987, she was the head of the Ceramic Design Department there. This means she led the program for students learning to design with clay.
In 1979, Siona also used her design skills for the theater. She designed the set for a play called A Simple Story. This play was performed at the Habima Theatre in Tel Aviv.
Curating Exhibitions
Siona also worked as a curator. A curator is someone who organizes and manages art exhibitions. From 1993 to 1994, she curated an exhibition about the famous designer Dora Gad at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Siona Shimshi created many public artworks that can still be seen today.
- She made a beautiful wooden artwork that is displayed in the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.
- There is a large wall hanging she created at the Tel Aviv Hilton hotel.
- In 1998, she made a sculpture for Israel's 50th anniversary, which is located in Holon.
- She designed glass walls at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.
- In 2004, she painted a portrait of Nathan Alterman, a famous Israeli poet. This portrait is on the outside of Tel Aviv City Hall.
Awards and Recognition
Siona Shimshi's art was recognized with awards. In 1988, she received the Arie El Hanani Prize. This award was given by the Joshua Rabinowitz Foundation for Arts, honoring her sculpture in Goren Goldstein Park in Tel Aviv.
Later Life and Legacy
Siona Shimshi passed away in Tel Aviv on October 16, 2018, when she was 79 years old. She was buried at Yarkon Cemetery. Her artworks continue to be admired, and her contributions to Israeli art are remembered.
