Sir David Carnegie of Pitarrow (born November 22, 1753 – died May 25, 1805) was an important Scottish politician. He was also known as the 4th Baronet. He was considered the 7th Earl of Southesk, a noble title, even though the official title was stopped for a while. He was a member of the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Early Life and Education

Sir David Carnegie was born in a place called Kincardineshire in Scotland. He was the oldest son of Sir James Carnegie, who was the 3rd Baronet. His mother was Christian Doig.

When David was just twelve years old in 1765, his father passed away. David then became the 4th Baronet. He also became the person who would claim the title of Earl of Southesk.

He went to some very famous schools. He studied at Eton College, which is a well-known school in England. After that, he went to university at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. He also studied at Christ Church, Oxford in England.

Political Career and Achievements

Sir David Carnegie became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1784. An MP is a person elected to represent an area in the country's government. He joined the British House of Commons, which is a main part of the British Parliament.

He represented a place called Aberdeen Burghs from 1784 to 1790. Later, he represented Forfarshire from 1796. He continued to serve in Parliament until he passed away in 1805.

Besides his political work, Sir David was also involved in business. He was a Deputy Governor of the British Linen Company. This was a bank that helped with the linen industry in Scotland. He also helped to rebuild and make improvements to Kinnaird Castle, Brechin. This castle was his family's historic home.

Family Life

On April 23, 1783, Sir David Carnegie married Agnes Murray Elliot. They got married in Edinburgh, Scotland. Together, they had a large family. They had ten daughters and two sons.

Sir David Carnegie passed away in London in 1805. He was buried at a church called St Martin-in-the-Fields. His oldest son, James, took over his titles after his death.
