Sir Edward Colebrooke's Early Life and School
Edward Colebrooke was born in Calcutta, which was part of British India at the time. He was the second son of Henry Thomas Colebrooke. Edward and his older brother, George Vernon, both went to Eton College, a famous school in England.
After Eton, Edward went to the East India Company College. This college helped prepare young men for jobs in India with the East India Company. The East India Company was a powerful British trading company that also governed parts of India.
Time Spent in India
Edward arrived in India in June 1832. He worked in a city called Allahabad. He stayed there for a few years before returning home. He left India on October 9, 1835, and arrived in London in January 1836. He came back to support his father after his older brother sadly passed away.
Becoming a Baronet
Edward's older brother, George, died in February 1835. His father passed away in January 1837. This meant that Edward was next in line to inherit the family title. He became the 4th Colebrooke Baronet in 1838 after his uncle, Sir James Edward Colebrooke, died. A Baronet is a special British title, like a knight, that can be passed down through the family.
Sir Edward's Political Career
Sir Edward Colebrooke was a Member of Parliament (MP) for many years. An MP is a person elected to represent an area in the British Parliament, which is like the country's main law-making body. He was a member of the Liberal Party.

Helping the Community
In 1859, Sir Edward moved to Ottershaw, a town in Surrey. He was very generous to the community there. He gave land from his own estate to build a church, a churchyard, and a house for the vicar (a church leader). He also paid for all the building costs and gave the church money each year to help it run.
Other Important Roles
Sir Edward was also involved in education and other societies.
