Sir Fulke Greville (born 1536 – died 15 November 1606) was an important English gentleman. He lived at Beauchamp Court, a large estate near Alcester in Warwickshire, England.

Who Was Sir Fulke Greville?

Sir Fulke Greville was born in 1536. His father was also named Sir Fulke Greville. His mother was Elizabeth Willoughby, 3rd Baroness Willoughby de Broke. She was a very wealthy heiress, meaning she inherited a lot of money and land. Elizabeth was the granddaughter of Robert Willoughby, 2nd Baron Willoughby de Broke.

Family and Titles

Elizabeth Willoughby, Sir Fulke's mother, inherited many important titles. She became the Baroness Willoughby de Broke and Baroness Latimer. These were old titles that could be passed down to women.

If modern laws had been in place back then, Sir Fulke Greville would have inherited these titles from his mother. He would have been the 4th Baron Willoughby de Broke. However, the law about women passing on titles was not fully set until much later, in 1696. This was established by his great-grandson.

Sir Fulke's Marriage and Children

In 1553, Sir Fulke Greville married Anne Neville. She was a daughter of Ralph Neville, 4th Earl of Westmorland. They had two children:

Life and Work

Sir Fulke Greville went to school at Shrewsbury School. He held an important job as the treasurer of the Navy until April 1604. This meant he managed the money for England's navy.

He also loved falconry, which is a sport where trained falcons hunt. In 1602, one of his falcons was found far away in Seaton, Devonshire. It had silver rings with his name and a picture of a ship on them.

Death and What Happened Next

Sir Fulke Greville passed away on 15 November 1606 at his home, Beauchamp Court. After his death, his estate and any claims to his family's titles went to his oldest son, Fulke Greville, 1st Baron Brooke.

Later, in 1628, his son was murdered. After that, the family estate and titles went to Sir Fulke's daughter, Margaret Greville, 6th Baroness Willoughby de Broke. She was married to Sir Richard Verney.
