Sir George Francis Osborne (born July 27, 1894 – died July 21, 1960) was a brave British Army officer. He also held a special family title called a baronet. A baronet is a bit like a knight, but the title can be passed down through the family. Sir George was honored for his courage during the First World War.
Who Was Sir George Osborne?
Sir George Francis Osborne was born on July 27, 1894. He was the oldest son of Sir Francis Osborne, who held the family baronet title before him. His mother was Kathleen Eliza Whitfield. The family lived in Framfield Grange, Sussex.
Sir George went to school at Repton School in Derbyshire. After that, he studied at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Berkshire. This academy is a famous place where people train to become officers in the British Army.
Sir George's Military Career
Sir George Osborne showed great bravery during the First World War. He was mentioned in official reports for his actions. This means his courage was specially noted by his commanders.
He was injured twice while fighting. In 1917, he received the Military Cross. This is a very important award given for acts of bravery during battle. Later, in 1932, he was promoted to the rank of major. He then retired from regular army service as a lieutenant-colonel. He served with a group called the Royal Sussex Regiment.
On October 23, 1948, Sir George inherited his family's special title. He became the 16th Osborne Baronet of Ballentaylor and Ballylemon.

Sir George Osborne married Mary Grace Horn on February 27, 1938. Mary Grace had a son from a previous marriage named John Aspinall.
Sir George and Mary Grace had four children together:

- Caroline Mary Osborne (born 1941)
- Sir Peter Osborne, 17th Baronet (born 1943). He later became the 17th Baronet.
- One of Peter's sons is George Gideon Oliver Osborne, who became a well-known politician.
- James Francis Osborne (born 1946)
Sir George Osborne passed away on July 21, 1960.
