A Family of Politicians
The Esmonde family had a strong history in Irish politics. Sir John's uncle, Sir John Esmonde, 14th Baronet, was also a Fine Gael TD for Wexford. He served in parliament from 1937 to 1951. Sir John's father, Sir Anthony Esmonde, 15th Baronet, continued this tradition. He was a Fine Gael TD for Wexford from 1951 until 1973, the same year Sir John was first elected. This shows how politics was a big part of their family's life.
