Sir John Walter Smythe (born November 7, 1827 – died March 5, 1919) was an English first-class cricket player. He was also an officer in the British Army. He held the title of the 8th Baronet in his family.

John Walter Smythe was born in November 1827. His family home was Acton Burnell Castle in Shropshire, England. His father was Sir Edward Joseph Smythe. John went to school at Downside School.
