His Early Life and Family
Oswald Mosley was born in Staffordshire, England, in 1848. He was the oldest son of Sir Tonman Mosley, who was the 3rd Baronet of Ancoats. His mother was Catherine Wood. His family, the Mosleys, were from both England and Ireland, and they were wealthy landowners in Staffordshire. Oswald also had a younger brother named Tonman Mosley, 1st Baron Anslow.
His Work and Nickname
Sir Oswald Mosley went to a famous school called Eton College. Later, he owned about 3,800 acres (about 15 square kilometers) of land. He lived at a large house called Rolleston Hall in Rolleston on Dove. He was very involved in farming and raising cattle. He became the 4th Baronet on April 28, 1890, after his father passed away.
People sometimes called him "Baronet John Bull." This was because he looked a lot like John Bull, who is a cartoon character that represents Great Britain.
His Family and Legacy
In 1873, Sir Oswald Mosley married Elizabeth Constance White. They had a son named Sir Oswald Mosley, who became the 5th Baronet. This son later married Katharine Maud Edwards-Heathcote. Their son, also named Sir Oswald Mosley, became the 6th Baronet and was a well-known British politician. Sir Oswald and Elizabeth also had a daughter named Constance Mosley.
