Early Life and Education
Young Robert Dillington started his studies at Queen's College, Oxford on December 9, 1653. This was a famous university in England. After that, in 1654, he also studied at Gray's Inn. Gray's Inn was a place where people learned to become lawyers.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Sir Robert Dillington became a "Member of Parliament," often called an MP. This means he was chosen by people to represent them in the House of Commons.
- In 1659, he was first elected as an MP for Newport. Newport is a town on the Isle of Wight. He served in a group called the Third Protectorate Parliament.
- Then, in 1660, he was elected again for Newport. This time, it was for the Convention Parliament. This Parliament was very important because it helped bring back the King to England.
Inheriting a Title and Estate
In 1664, something big happened in Robert Dillington's life. His grandfather passed away. This meant Robert inherited the title of "Baronet," becoming the 2nd Baronet in his family. He also inherited a large property called the Knighton Gorges estate. This estate was also located on the Isle of Wight.
After this, he continued his political career. He was elected as an MP for Newport one more time in 1670. This was for the Cavalier Parliament. He stayed in this role for a long time, serving until 1685.

Sir Robert Dillington lived to be about 52 years old. He was married two times during his life.
- His first wife was Jane. She was the daughter of John Freke from Cerne Abbey. They had several children together. Sadly, only two sons and one daughter survived.
- His second wife was Hannah. She was the daughter of William Webb, a grocer from London. With Hannah, he had another son and two more daughters.
Sir Robert Dillington's three sons from both marriages continued his family line. Their names were Robert, John, and Tristram. Each of them became a Baronet after him, one after the other.
