The title of Sirdar (Arabic: سردار) was a special rank. It was given to the British officer who was the main leader, or Commander-in-Chief, of the Egyptian Army. This happened when Britain had control over Egypt in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The Sirdar lived in a large house called the Sirdaria. This property was in an area of Egypt called Zamalek. It was also where the British military gathered important information about Egypt. The role of Sirdar was eventually replaced in 1937 by a new position called the Chief of the General Staff.
