The Egyptian Army is the biggest part of the Egyptian Armed Forces. It's like the main ground force that protects Egypt. This modern army was started a long time ago by a very important leader named Muhammad Ali Pasha, who ruled Egypt from 1805 to 1849. He is often called the founder of modern Egypt.

The Egyptian Army has been involved in several important events throughout history. In the 20th century, they fought in five wars against the State of Israel. These wars happened in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1967–1970, and 1973. During the Suez Crisis of 1956, the army also faced forces from Britain and France.

The Egyptian army also took part in the North Yemen civil war and a short conflict called the Libyan-Egyptian War in July 1977. Their most recent big operation was Operation Desert Storm in 1991. In this operation, they helped free Kuwait from Iraqi control. The Egyptian army was the second-largest group of allied forces in that mission.

In 2014, the army had about 310,000 soldiers. Around 90,000 to 120,000 of these soldiers were full-time professionals. The rest were conscripts, which means they were required to serve for a period of time.
