History of Calahonda
Calahonda was first developed by a person named D. Juan de Orbaneja in 1963. He created this town in the space between Marbella and Mijas.
The town has faced some challenges, like wildfires. There were fires in September 2011 and again in September 2012.

The people who own homes in Calahonda help take care of the town. They manage a yearly budget to keep the common areas looking good. This includes things like sidewalks, roads, street lights, and keeping green spaces clean.
Calahonda has more than 27 kilometers (about 17 miles) of roads. It also has around 7,000 homes and 600,000 square meters (about 148 acres) of green areas. Many people who live here are not from Spain. A lot of residents come from countries like Britain, Scandinavia, and Germany.

There are different ways to reach Sitio De Calahonda. However, getting around inside the town using public transport can be a bit limited.
Bus Services
- The M-220 bus travels between nearby Fuengirola and Marbella. It runs every half an hour, making it easy to visit these towns.
- The M119 bus goes in a loop between Calahonda and Fuengirola.
Driving by Car
- The A-7 is the main road along the coast. It's free for all drivers to use.
- The AP-7 is a toll road that runs above Calahonda in the mountains. You have to pay a small fee to use this road.
Train Travel
- Right now, there are no train lines that go directly to Sitio De Calahonda.
- However, there are talks about extending the Cercanías Málaga train line from Fuengirola all the way to Marbella. This would make train travel much easier in the future.

Calahonda offers some great places for sports and recreation.
- La Siesta Golf Club: This golf course was designed by Enrique Canales. It has nine holes, which is perfect for a fun round of golf.
- Club Del Sol Tennis Club: Here, you can enjoy various sports. They offer facilities for tennis, squash, and paddle tennis. There's also a gym if you want to work out.
