Siya's Early Life
Siya was born in Barstow, California. Her father was African American, and her mother was Puerto Rican. She has three sisters. Siya grew up with her grandmother in the Eleanor Roosevelt housing projects in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
She started rapping when she was just seven years old. By the age of 12, she was already getting into the music world. The rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony was a big influence on her. She loved how melodic their music sounded.
Siya's Musical Journey
Music became a way for Siya to express her feelings and experiences. In her mid-20s, she moved to Atlanta to focus on her music career. There, she built a strong reputation and gained many fans. This caught the eye of well-known artists and big music labels.
Some people in the music industry were unsure about an openly gay female rapper. But Siya was determined. She refused to change who she was or her unique style. She stayed true to herself.
R&B star Tank discovered her talent. Soon after, she signed with his label, R&B Money LLC. In 2011, Siya released her singles "I'm Gone" and "Smoke Drink." She also put out her mixtape called Elevator Dreams.
In 2014, Siya released more singles, "One Hunnid" and "Real MVP." She followed this with two mixtapes in 2015: Better Late Than Never and What Never Happened. Her first studio album, SIYAvsSIYA, came out on December 9, 2016. This album featured collaborations with artists like Ashley Rose and Kreesha Turner. The first song from the album was "New York."
On February 6, 2017, Siya released "Front Door." This song promoted her six-song extended play (EP) called Commitment. The EP was released on February 10, 2017, under Tank's label. It included the song "Don't You (Say Yes)" featuring Tank. In 2018, she released "No Race" and "Circle Watching." These songs were a preview for her next EP, Mad Energy.
