Skellyville is a small place in Kingman County, Kansas, United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
You can find Skellyville about 2 miles (3.2 km) northwest of a town called Cunningham. It is located on the north side of the South Fork Ninnescah River.
A Town Built on Oil
Skellyville started as a special kind of place called an "oil town." This happened because people found oil deep underground in the area. When oil was discovered, many people moved to Skellyville to work.
However, the oil supply eventually ran out. As the "pocket" of oil became empty, there was less work. Because of this, many people moved away, and the number of people living in Skellyville went down.
