SkyJump Las Vegas is an exciting adventure ride. It holds a Guinness World Record for being the highest commercial "decelerator descent." This means it's the tallest controlled jump you can pay to do! It is located at the top of the Stratosphere Las Vegas tower. The jump is about 829 feet (253 meters) high. SkyJump opened on April 20, 2010. The mayor of Las Vegas even declared that day "SkyJump Day."
What Happens on the SkyJump?
SkyJump Las Vegas is a special kind of controlled jump. It's not a freefall, but a guided descent. Before you jump, you get a quick safety lesson. Then, you put on a special "jump suit" made just for the Stratosphere.
How the Jump Works
You are connected to a unique machine called a "descender." This machine controls your speed. You walk to the edge of a small platform high up on the tower. Then, you take a big leap! As you fall, guide wires keep you from moving off course. It feels a bit like bungee jumping, but it's much more controlled.
Landing Safely
As you get close to the ground, the descender machine slows you down. This makes sure you have a soft and safe landing. It's a thrilling experience from start to finish!
