Skye Amiel Blakely, born on February 4, 2005, is a talented American artistic gymnast. She has been a key part of teams that won gold medals at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023. She also helped her team win a silver medal at the 2022 Pan American Championships. Earlier in her career, she earned a bronze medal at the first-ever Junior World Championships in 2019.

Early Life and Gymnastics Start

Skye Blakely was born in Dallas, Texas, in 2005. Her parents are Steven and Stephanie Blakely. Skye has an older sister, Sloane Blakely, who is also a gymnast. Skye started her gymnastics journey in 2008 when she was just three years old.

Junior Gymnastics Highlights

2018: First National Team Call

In 2018, Skye began to make a name for herself. She competed at several events, including the Buckeye National Qualifier and the WOGA Classic. At the American Classic, she finished third in the all-around competition. Later that year, she placed sixth in the all-around at the U.S. Classic.

Her big moment came at the 2018 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships. Skye finished fourth in the all-around. She also won a silver medal on the floor exercise and a bronze on vault. Because of her strong performance, she was chosen for the national team for the first time.

2019: Junior World Championships Bronze

Skye continued her success in 2019. She helped the USA team win a gold medal at the International Gymnix event in Montreal. Individually, she earned a bronze in the all-around and gold medals on vault and uneven bars.

She then competed at the Junior World Championships Trials. Skye placed first in the all-around, which earned her a spot on the team for the first Junior World Championships. There, she helped the USA team win a bronze medal. She also placed fourth on uneven bars and fifth on floor exercise.

Later in 2019, Skye competed at the U.S. Classic. She won a gold medal on floor exercise and a silver on vault. At the U.S. National Championships, she finished fourth in the all-around. She also tied for second on balance beam and won a bronze on floor exercise. These results kept her on the junior national team.

2020: Continued Junior Success

Skye started 2020 strong by winning the all-around at the WOGA Classic. She then competed at the International Gymnix in Montreal. There, she helped the USA team win a gold medal. Individually, she won gold in the all-around, silver medals on vault, uneven bars, and balance beam, and a bronze on floor exercise.

Senior Gymnastics Career

2021: Senior Debut and Injury

Skye made her senior debut at the 2021 Winter Cup. She finished first on balance beam. After winning the American Classic, she was added back to the national team. She competed at the GK US Classic and the National Championships. Her performances earned her a spot at the Olympic Trials. Unfortunately, Skye was injured during warmups at the Trials and had to withdraw from the competition.

In September 2021, Skye announced her commitment to join the Florida Gators college team.

2022: World Champion

Skye returned to competition at the 2022 Winter Cup, finishing second in the all-around. She then helped the USA team win gold at the DTB Pokal Team Challenge in Stuttgart.

In July, she competed at the Pan American Championships. She won a bronze medal in the all-around and another bronze on floor exercise. She also helped the United States team win a silver medal.

In October, Skye was chosen for the 2022 World Championships team. She helped the USA team qualify in first place for the team final. In the team final, Skye competed on the balance beam, helping the USA win their sixth straight team gold medal. She also made it to the balance beam final, where she placed fifth.

In November, Skye officially signed with the Florida Gators. She planned to start college after the 2024 Olympic Games.

2023: Another World Gold

In September 2023, Skye won silver medals on vault, uneven bars, and balance beam at the U.S. National Championships. She was again selected to represent the United States at the 2023 World Championships. She competed on uneven bars and balance beam, helping the USA win their seventh consecutive World team title.

2024: Olympic Dream Ends with Injury

Skye started 2024 by winning the balance beam title at the 2024 Winter Cup. She also placed second in the all-around. At the National Championships, Skye finished second in the all-around behind Simone Biles. She also earned silver on vault and bronze on uneven bars and balance beam. These results qualified her for the Olympic Trials.

However, during practice for the Olympic Trials, Skye sadly injured her right Achilles tendon. This injury forced her to withdraw from the competition, ending her chance to compete in the Olympics that year.
